Adding Custom Nameservers at your registrar

You can not enter IP address as name servers, you will need to register your own name server using the IP address and then set the name servers to your own registered name servers. You can register your name servers under your account's Domain Host Summary section. Registering your name server IP addresses allows you to define a name for your server based on your domain name. You can register any host name you wish, in the format: • host.domain.tld (example: "nameserver1.godaddy.com") Please follow the steps below to register your private name servers. If you just bought the domain name today, you may need to wait 1 day before defining the name servers so they will resolve for validation. There are flash tutorials available at http://www.mysidesupport.net/tutorials/ns.shtml for several registrars. The steps below will work for Integrity Domains, GoDaddy, and Wild West Domains, as the procedure for updating at these registrars recently changed: login to your account click Manage Domains click the domain you want to add as a name server On the next screen use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen (not your browser's) to scroll down Click the View/Modify/Detail link under Host Summary Now type NS1 and NS2 for your domain and enter the respective IP address for each Click OK Now you have to click the small white "x" that appears on the far right of the screen to close the Set Hosts confirmation message. Now you can assign your name servers to any domain To do this: login to your godaddy account click Manage Domains click the domain you want to edit on the top, middle area in the blue where it says "Name Servers" click the existing name server names Now you can erase the old ones and enter your name servers here Click OK Click OK | |
